History: 17th-18th centuries
The Temple of Fire “Ateshgah” is located 30 km from Baku, in the south-eastern part of the settlement of Surakhani of Absheron Peninsula. “Ateshgah” was built in the place of eternal unquenchable fires in 17th-18th centuries. Azerbaijan has long been called “The Land of Fire” due to the phenomena of this ancient “eternal flames” which have been burning continuously.
